Simplified and Secure Global Banking Doesn’t Have to Be a Myth

In today’s fast-paced financial world, enterprises find themselves juggling multiple banks, currencies, and regulations to keep operations running smoothly. For global organizations, this complexity can feel overwhelming. The challenge is not just about managing various banking relationships; it’s also about securely transmitting financial data in different formats—without errors, delays, or breaches.

BankFabric was designed specifically to tackle these issues head-on. As a secure, SOC 2 compliant solution, BankFabric delivers universal connectivity for enterprises managing financial operations across multiple banks, multiple ERP systems – across several regions, and currencies – and multiple connectivity standards. It alleviates the headaches associated with maintaining multiple file formats, keeping up with evolving standards, and guaranteeing robust security throughout the transfer process.

Key Challenges in Enterprise Banking Connectivity

Fragmentation

Fragmentation can be seen on a system level. When companies rely on manual file uploads to manage banking transactions, small mistakes can lead to large-scale problems. Inaccurate amounts, incorrect bank details, and missed deadlines cost time and money. Many banks themselves grapple with fragmented systems, multiplying the challenges for enterprise clients.

Fragmentation can also be seen happening on a geopolitical level. In a recent article from SWIFT called “Growth at a crossroads: New report reveals high cost of financial fragmentation” the article concludes that fragmentation is driven by global tides such as geopolitical tensions. What is the cost of fragmentation?

“The findings make it clear that fragmentation benefits no one. It adds friction to international trade and hinders economic growth on a global scale, with projected global GDP losses ranging from -1.2% by 2030 in the best-case scenario, to almost -6%, or the equivalent of $6.5 trillion, in the worst case.”

Diverse Banking Standards

There’s no universal format that all banks adhere to. Regulations and file formats vary by region, and these requirements change frequently. Keeping track of them, especially across multiple countries, demands constant vigilance and resources.

Security Risks

Handling sensitive financial data through unsecured channels can expose businesses to fraud, data theft, and compliance violations. Enterprises must ensure robust encryption and process controls to protect their most critical information.

How BankFabric Solves These Problems

Whether your organization uses SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or a combination of different ERP systems, BankFabric integrates seamlessly. This means minimal disruption to your existing workflows and a single solution that works across different software landscapes. The heightened integration capabilities mean BankFabric can be tuned to a variety of applications and be highly accessible.

Going beyond accessibility, BankFabric has sincere adaptability when it comes to global banking coverage. BankFabric supports hundreds of pre-built banking formats and keeps them continuously updated. You don’t need to track down the latest XML layout for European SEPA transfers, navigating EBICS requirements in central Europe, BACS standards in UK, or the newest NACHA guidelines for U.S. ACH payments. BankFabric does it for you.

When it comes to security, you need stability. Encryption, authentication, and secure connections are at the heart of BankFabric’s architecture. All file transfers are automated, cutting out the error-prone manual steps that can compromise confidentiality or data integrity. This end-to-end security makes BankFabric an intensely defensive SOC 2 compliant software, warding off anybody who is trying to defraud you or your company.

Data security is always at the forefront of an executive’s mind. Using BankFabric does not mean relinquishing control over where your data is stored. BankFabric allows you to store your data within your own cloud environment. This way an enterprise can have peace of mind knowing their data remains under their own precautions and not the standards of a third party.

Finally, BankFabric’s built-in automation handles high volumes of transactions, growing in tandem with your business, making it scalable. Whether you send a few files a week or thousands daily, the system adapts without missing a beat.

Enterprise Benefits

BankFabric was built with an enterprise mindset. With BankFabric, all banking communications—from secure file storage to payment file uploads—are consolidated in one secure interface. It eliminates the chaos of logging into multiple bank portals, using various credentials, and navigating different user interfaces. This centralized banking management system takes all enterprise needs into consideration.

Furthermore, by reducing manual uploads and consolidating data flows, BankFabric frees up your team’s time for strategic decision-making. The result is fewer resource-intensive tasks and more focus on critical financial planning, analysis, and forecasting. The term that best encompasses this capability is ‘operational efficiency’. Operational efficiency refers to the ratio between an organization’s inputs (time, resources, money) and its outputs (goods and services). The more output a company produces with the same or fewer inputs, the higher its operational efficiency. BankFabric is a catalyst for operational efficiency.

Despite its current state, the world will continue to evolve. Things like banking regulations and technology will inevitably change. BankFabric automatically updates formats and protocols as they change, ensuring you remain compliant and connected—without needing major system overhauls. This future proof connectivity lets businesses have a stress-free environment when it comes to these financial systems.

Real-World Use Cases

  • Multi-National Corporations:

A global manufacturing firm operating across Asia, Europe, and North America can simplify complex banking operations by using BankFabric to standardize payments, streamline reconciliations, and manage multiple currencies through a single, automated dashboard across all legal entities.

  • ERP Transitions or Multi-ERP Setups:

During mergers, acquisitions, or system upgrades, organizations often juggle different ERPs. BankFabric remains the constant for banking connectivity, eliminating the need for separate solutions in each environment. This consistency leads to BankFabric working for you, not against you.

  • Complex Banking Environments:

If you manage dozens of banks, hundreds of accounts, and multiple legal entities, BankFabric’s robust setup can handle the scale. From automated payment file distribution to secure statement collection, the platform keeps everything organized and under control.

Introduction to P-Cards

Purchasing cards, or P-Cards, are credit cards that are commonly issued by organizations to employees. These cards offer a convenient method for employees to make business-related purchases directly without having to go through a requisition process to seek budget approval or obtain a purchase order. This reduces administrative overhead and improves the speed of transactions all while enhancing control over purchasing activity.

However, there can be challenges that arise when getting these expenses into an ERP system.

The P-Card Solution

SKsoft’s embedded solution automates the import of transactions and expenses into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain. This includes expenses coded into third party systems. Along with importing the transactions, SKsoft also imports images uploaded into your third-party system and links them to the transaction line.

Within BankFabric, users are able to configure the file import to match their provider’s export, eliminating the need for a custom file to be provided by your credit card provider. This new P-Card solution provides users with a familiar interface and robust functionality. By embedding the P-Card solution directly into D365, we ensure that users can manage their P-Card transactions with the same ease and efficiency as other financial processes within the platform.

Having a solution like this allows all information concerning P-Cards to be observable and accessible, which allows for things like up-to-date reporting and daily visibility.

Key Features of the P-Card Module

Our P-Card module offers several powerful features designed to enhance the management of P-Card transactions:

  • Streamlined Expense Importing: Simplifies the process of importing expenses coded in third-party systems into a D365 journal, reducing manual data entry and minimizing errors. (supports various file formats such as CSV and other flat files)
  • Support for Travel Cards: In addition to P-Cards, our solution also supports travel cards provided that the company pays the credit card company directly or handles employee reimbursements outside of D365. This flexibility allows businesses to manage corporate card transactions within a unified system.
  • User Customization for File Configurations: Allows users to customize file configurations for importing data, ensuring compatibility with various third-party systems. This flexibility can align imports with specific formats provided by their P-Card providers and offers a tailored fit for different business needs.
  • Vendor or Ledger Account Offsetting: Supports offsetting transactions to either vendor or ledger accounts, catering to different accounting needs. You have the flexibility to have expenses recorded as vendor transactions or a credit card clearing account.
  • Expense Allocation: Enables the allocation of expenses to ledger accounts or projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting. This granularity in expense tracking ensures that all costs are accurately recorded and accounted for, aiding in precise financial reporting and project cost management.
  • Image Support: Support for attaching images to the corresponding journal lines, enhancing record-keeping and verification processes to enhance transparency and auditability.
  • P-Card Accrual (Upcoming): Allows users to import expenses from files where invoices are either not coded or not approved in their third-party system. This feature will be available in version 12.3.
  • P-Card Reconciliation (Future Release): Reconcile recorded transactions against the credit card statement to easily identify any discrepancies.

An In-Depth overview of Using the P-Card Module

Using the P-Card module is straightforward and intuitive. Let’s walk through a step-by-step guide:

The first step is to configure your file format in BankFabric.  This involves mapping the fields from your bank’s export file to the associated fields in D365. In addition to this, you need to configure your file location and communications inside of BankFabric.  Next, you would want to configure your P-Card module in TAS. Here, you determine if your offset account will be a ledger account or a vendor account.  Additionally, you will determine if your journal posts automatically upon import.

The next step is importing a P-Card transaction. This step is done via a recurring batch job, but a user can also import on demand.  By automating the import process, you can ensure timely and accurate data entry.

After the file is imported, you can view the import history to check that it was imported successfully. You can also see all transactions (and images) in the file and drill-down into the journal that was created.  Just because the journal is automatically created does not mean that it is automatically posted. This leaves you in full control of authorizing any amounts or allocations that are on the P-Card before it gets pushed to a ledger or account. Standard D365 workflow and approval journals can be added if needed.

During the whole process, if an error does occur, you can view the error log to see detailed information regarding the errors, including the specific lines where issues were detected. If the journal errors are due to a D365 configuration you can adjust your settings and create the journal without having to re-import the file. This is particularly useful for managing large volumes of transactions.

Advantages for D365 Finance & Supply Chain Users

The P-Card module brings significant benefits to D365 Finance & Supply Chain users, including ramping up efficiency and automation. By automating imports and facilitating the creation of P-Card journals, this solution severely reduces manual workload and speeds up financial processes. This addition to D365 functionality does not come at the cost of a change in user interface, but instead, these parameters allow for straightforward configuration rather than requiring time consuming customization.

This solution is fully built out yet still improving. The upcoming accrual and reconciliation functionality will further enhance the module’s capability by providing users with comprehensive transaction records.
